What We Offer
| Our "Nest of Eggs" Approach |
|
The Nest of Eggs approach to financial planning is based on a very intuitive concept: when you need the money determines how it should be invested.
For example, if you inherited $100,000 and wanted to invest it, the first question should be, “When do you need the money?” If you plan to buy a cabin next summer, then the funds need to be invested in CDs, money market accounts, etc. - something safe. If you need it for retirement in fifteen years, then you might be willing to take some risk for better long-term potential.
We look at your retirement needs per month and subtract the income from Social Security, pensions, etc. The shortfall, if any, needs to be invested based on the time needed.
Each egg represents a five year period of time. The money you need from your investments each year during the first five years should be absolutely safe. We want to avoid risk of any kind. If the economy turns bad, you can still continue to do the things you want to do.
The second five years also needs to be safe, but can absorb slightly more risk. Of course, we want to mitigate that risk as much as possible.
Ten+ years have traditionally been in the stock market, but as we are now in a long-term (secular) bear market, we need to mitigate market risk and do so with tactical money managers who can be in or out of the market.
The nest of eggs provides clients with security and allows them to continue their retirement plans regardless of market conditions, interest rates, or economic panic. For example, one of our client sretired at the end of 2008. No one knew if we were going into a deep recession or a long depression, but the client could walk out the door because he knew that his retirement money was absolutely safe for the next five years. That is freedom!
